“I- I never meant to make you feel trapped, dear,” she swallowed, fighting back tears. She turned her gaze away from Amelia and rubbed her eyes. “I’m just like my mother,” she muttered to herself. “I’m sorry honey. Did…anyone ever tell you about what happened to your…father?”
Amelia sighed. “I didn’t mean to make you cry! I just….I want to understand…why,”
Amelia bit her lip as her mother talked about Cora…they had rarely mentioned Cora. Normally it was just a passing comment or a mutter under Reginas breath. It was driving Amelia crazy. The first few days of being reunited with Regina were magical. She finally knew what it felt like to be wanted.
But then conversations drew short. Questions filled Amelia’s mind, just to be regretted by Regina. She would just sigh and move on. So as the days went on, questions started to build…and so did Amelia’s confusion…and then her anger. It was only amount of time before it boiled over.
She tried to dull it down with the alcohol, it didn’t work… and when Regina caught her, Amelia couldn’t help but explode…she wanted answers, now. Only to be regretted again, it was so frustrating.
Amelia’s eyes lit up at the mention of her father. They had not yet spoke of him, other than the fact that he had loved Amelia so terribly much and that…he was dead. That’s when all the answers stopped. After asking more of her father, Regina closed up and starting controlling Amelia, emotionally and physically.
“Mother…you know I haven’t talked to anyone since we found each other again, how could I? Please, tell me what happened to him, I can handle it!”
Regina had only wanted to shelter her, to give her the happy ending she had always wanted. She didn’t want her to learn that love is weakness like she had. But, Amelia was growing up and she was old enough to know the truth. So, she bit the inside of her cheek trying to find the words to start. “Now, as you may know,” she tried, her eyes softening as she locked eyes with Amelia, “I was very young. And, I fell in love with your father, the stable boy, but your grandmother didn’t approve. He’s wasn’t as well off as others.” She paused, fighting back tears as she pinched the bridge of her nose. “And, then Snow White came along and I saved her life and the King offered me his hand in marriage and I-” she broke off, as the tears trailed down her face.
Amelia couldn’t take it. It was too much infomation in such a short space of time. A stable boy? Snow White? A King? Cora? She shook her head and burried it in her hands. None of it made any sense.
“You married another man?”
The words felt bitter in Amelia’s mouth as she looked up at her mother. Her mother eyes were screaming at her, pleading at her. Amelia ignored them, she was angry.
“Why?”
That was all Amelia could think of to say… Why would she marry another man if she truly loved her father, as she kept telling Amelia over and over? The only conculsion that she could come to was that…Regina was a liar. Amelia clenched her fists.
“You told me you loved my father….if you loved him, you would have said no!” Amelia was growing angrier each second. Sweet, innocent Amelia was gone.
“WHY DIDN’T YOU SAY NO?!” Amelia finally let it all out. She kept repeating it: “Why, why, why?!” She shook violently, the familar purple glow that Regina had seen plenty of times before began to surrond Amelia’s fists. Amelia didn’t know what was happening, it was like she was transfixed. Onto Regina. She couldn’t move, she couldn’t stop it. She didn’t even register Regina’s eyes widening…. she was so angry.
“Amelia!” she screamed, trying to explain herself as the tears continued. “Amelia! She killed him! Amelia!” She brought her hands to her face and sobbed, her body convulsing as she no longer could the find the words. She tried to pull it together by taking deep breaths and when she thought she had, she saw Amelia’s hands glowing, surrounded by a bright purple hue. “Amelia! Stop! Look at yourself! Look at your hands!” she screamed one last time, eyes widening with fear.
Amelia could barley hear her mother’s words. She wanted to want to listen to them. But they didn’t matter any more…nothing mattered. It was all lies. Angry tears escaped her eyes and she ground her teeth together…
She looked deep into her mother’s pleading eyes, they only seemed to fuel Amelia’s anger more… it all happened so quickly. Amelia leapt forward. She felted like something exploded inside her….broke her.
She grabbed Regina. All she could think about was doing things so…unspeakable to her. Hurting her, like how she was hurting right now. But worse, so much worse. She smiled darkly. She heard her mother cry out. Amelia froze…she stopped.
Her gaze lowered. The ring, around Regina’s neck. It was glowing at her, seeking her out. Singing to her. Amelia reached up, she felt Regina tense. Probably thinking Amelia was going to strangle her…Regina let out a child-like whimper. She clasped the ring. It showed her all of it.
All the pain, the despair. Everything Regina had gone through. Daniel. Losing Daniel. Crying over his limp body, crying over the screaming baby in her arms. She watched Cora snatched the baby from Regina. Regina screamed…Amelia winced. She couldn’t bear it. Years went by. The castle. Regina spending all her days and nights alone, thinking about her once family. Her child and her true love.
Amelia was back. She let go of the ring and shot backwards, away from her mother. She gasped for air as she slammed against the wall behind her. Eyes wide in fear….fear of herself. What had she done? She looked at her mother…broken, she was utterly broken. Amelia fell to her knees. She sobbed and clawed at her face.
“Mommy, I’m so sorry! I’m so so sorry! I’M SO SO SORRY!!! Please don’t leave me” Amelia screamed. She couldn’t even bear to look up at her mother. She hated herself.
Regina continued to tense, bringing the ring to eye level as tried not to cry again. “Amelia. I never should have put you through this- did you know you could do that?” she hesitated, eyeing Amelia’s hands.

“I know you’re sorry, honey. That’s what makes all the difference. I have done many awful things in my time, dear. And,...
Amelia look up at her mother, why was she being so nice about this? She nearly killed her…she nearly killed her mother....
