Regina rolled her eyes at Henry. She didn’t appreciate this new found attitude he had been giving her. He used to be so sweet. He used to believe in all things good. And, most importantly, he believed that she could be good. “What happened to you, Henry?” she sighed, sinking into the booth. “You used to be such a sweet boy.” She pulled out her phone and pulled up a picture of the red clay handprint he had made for her as a child. “For mommy,” she read, frowning at her phone. “Do you remember this? I miss this. I miss this Henry.”

“I grew up.” He snapped, “Isn’t that what you wanted me to do? Grow up? For me to stop acting like a kid?” The teen had crossed his arms and leaned back into the booth, “I’m not that sweet boy anymore, and I mean c’mon,” He said looking at the photo, “That was little Henry. The one who had no damn idea what was going on. The one who felt like no matter what, there was always going to be the one person he needed to be his side, and it sure as hell was not you.” Henry sighed, “You know what, I’m not going to do this.” He slid out of the booth and was about to walk away, “You’re one of the exact reasons why I don’t come here. People like you. .They’re the kids.” He walked out of the diner and stood outside by his car once more hoping not to be followed until he heard the diner bell, “Shit.” He mumbled to himself.

“I wanted you to grow up to be a good man. And-” she cut off, swallowing hard as her vision blurred from tears forming in the corner of her eyes. “And, I don’t see a good man in front of me.” A tear fell down her cheek as she shook her head. She knew she had told him many times when he was younger to grow up, but now she wanted her little boy back. She wanted the boy who was still willing to call her “mom” without cringing. “I did love you, Henry. I still do love you. Why can’t you see that? I know I was cruel, but I just wanted to protect you,” she cried, speaking over Henry. And, as he left, she sulked in the booth crying. She tried to control herself and calm down, but she couldn’t. “Henry!” she screeched. She was no longer able to speak any other words as she bolted out of Granny’s and sobbed in her car.
