The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree

daughterofanevilqueen:

Daniela had noticed Regina jump, startled, in her peripheral vision as she began to speak. Tearing her brown eyes from the apple, she fixed them on her mother, pursing her lips together as she watched the woman bring her hand up to her forehead, pinching the bridge of her nose.

Daniela wanted to feel regret for her words; she wasn’t the kind of person who would enjoy upsetting others, especially those she cared about. However, she couldn’t bring herself to. Everything that had happened so far since she had begun living with her parents had been perfect, almost…too perfect. And the girl just wanted to know why. Why her mother had acted the way she had in the Enchanted Forest, and why she hated Snow White. Of course, Daniela had been told a few important things, and she had forgiven her mother long ago. But, she still didn’t understand; not completely.

Watching her mother’s eyes water, before she tilted her gaze to the ground, caused guilt to well up inside of Daniela. She took a couple of tentative steps forwards, placing, what she hoped, was a comforting hand on her mother’s arm. “I just want to understand,” she whispered, feeling her throat tighten with emotion, “I’ve already forgiven you for everything…but…I don’t understand.”

Letting her hand fall from Regina’s arm, she took a couple of small steps backwards, her eyes wide and shining with unshed tears. “And what about now…am I enough now?” Her heart beat increased as she waited for the answer, “I’m sorry I’m not the sweet little baby you wanted…want…and I never will be.”

Regina sighed and swallowed hard, toughening up to lock her eyes with Daniela’s. She had to stop with the lies and the cruelties. If she was going to be genuine, it had to be with Daniela. So, she wiped away the tears starting to form in the corner’s of her eyes and gave herself an encouraging nod.

She paused for a moment, waiting for the words to come. She really wanted to tell Daniela everything. She really did. She knew she would probably never look at her same, but it was bond to spill out eventually. And, it would better if Daniela heard it from her than from someone else in town. So, she sighed once more and brushed a strand of hair out her eyes as she tried once more.

“Fine,” sighed, finally bringing herself to speak actually words. “You want to know everything? Do you really? Fine. I don’t care if you’re not sweet. You’re my daughter. I should expect as much. But, don’t get your hopes up about me either, my dear.” She bit the inside of her cheek, wanting to take back the spitefulness of her last words, but shaking it off as she remembered that she wasn’t going to leave anything out. She was going to tell all.

“It- It all started around the time your father and I were getting very serious. But, I was still trying to keep him a secret from my mother. And, on one of our secret meetings, I saw a girl struggling on horse. So, out of instinct, I hopped on my horse and trotted over to save her. That girl turned out to be Snow White. Now, that was just the beginning. Do you really want to hear this tale?” she almost whispered, eyes locking with Daniela’s below her furrowed brows.
